What great photos of circus stars from the age of canvas.
I saw Lottie and her husband warming up for their act behind the back door curtain at the Shrine circus in Green Bay Wis. Must of been in the early 70′s. They were warming up by juggling seven (yes 7!) rings under a stairway! Amazing!
Great performers of a great era. Patches the clown
These are so awesome! Thanks to Sheigh over at chime.in for bringing us here. I have to share this site on our facebook page for our followers, it’s the first we’ve been here. We sell vintage clothes, you can like us at http://www.monkeysuitvintage.com.
I rarely see photo shots of 50s gals, and never have seen circus ones. Thanks for posting.
I’m very curious if all of these people in the photos stayed in the circus for their whole lives, or if they left and settled down in the suburbs.
great photos as usual. Thanks!
Have you considered giving permission with credit included for private use, for a website, for example? What are your parameters for sharing one or two of these photos with a project that will serve many?
Hi Lizbeth. I wasn’t sure if you had received an answer already to your question about permissions. If you are still interested in using these photos for a website contact Maureen Brunsdale, Special Collections and Rare Books Librarian at Illinois State University’s Milner Library, at [email protected] for copyright information.
These photos come from kodachrome slides taken by Sverre O. Braathen that are housed in Milner Library’s Special Collections and Rare Books Room. We are currently working on digitizing these slides to make them available for viewing online. To see more photos like these check out our website! http://tempest.lib.ilstu.edu/braathen.php
Hope that answers your question. Have a great day!
can you add me at your mailing list?
Thanks!
